Training Manager – Engineering

Sterling Recruitment have an excellent opportunity for Training Manager to join our clients team. Reporting the Operations Director you will take a leading role in designing, implementing and overseeing training programmes within the organisation, as well as some delivery. The primary goal is to enhance the knowledge, skills and performance of apprentices / employees and to support the achievement of organisation goals. Fostering a learning culture and supporting employee development, succession planning and drive individual and organisation growth through the training department.

Job Responsibilities are but not limited to:

· Training Delivery – facilitation training session or coordinating with external trainers to deliver the training programmes. This will involve conducting classroom training, virtual training sessions or coordinating online learning platforms.

To support the recruitment of apprentices.

· Developing training programmes that align with business goals and addresses identified needs. This includes determining training objectives, selecting appropriate training methods (such as classroom sessions, e-learning, workshops, or on-the-job training) and creating training materials and resources.

· Assessing the effectiveness of training programmes through evaluations, surveys, and feedback from participants. Analysing training outcomes and making improvements.

· Conducting assessments to identify skills gaps and training needs within the organisation. Presentation to the SLT for approval.

· Learning Management System (LMS) – administration and maintaining the organisations learning management system – collating training materials and progress reports / certificates. Generation of reports and presentation to SLT.

· Keeping up to date with industry trends and best practices in training and development. Attending conferences, workshops and seminars to enhance personal knowledge and skills


· Degree educated ideally in teaching (Cert Ed, PGCE, PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS)

· Engineering discipline

· Assessor Award D32, D33, AQA

· Verification award IQA

· Safeguarding Level 4

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

· Background in metal fabrication or engineering preferable.

· Ability to respond and thrive in an environment with rapidly changing priorities.

· Ability to build good working relationships with people at all levels in the organisation.

· Experience of designing and delivering training programmes, particularly apprenticeships.

· Organising and coordinating training programmes.

· Confident public speaking and presentation abilities.

· Excellent instruction and coaching skills.

· Excellent prioritising, planning and organisational skills

· Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills at all levels.

· Some experience / training in psychometric testing would be an advantage.

· Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Hold a valid full UK driving license and a willingness and ability to travel as required.

The successful candidate must be passionate about engineering and knowledgeable in the fabrication and or machining field. You will also hold or be working towards a relevant teaching or assessing qualification and be capable of delivering excellent training both on and off-the-job.

You must also be competent in delivering to apprentices, including conducting progress reviews, understanding the need to plan and deliver training according to the employers’ requirements.
