Production and Maintenance Supervisor

Sterling Recruitment Services are recruiting for experienced Shift Supervisors to join our client based in Middlesbrough.

We are looking for keen, motivated, hands-on Production Supervisors to run small shifts (5-10 people) at our clients large scale metal recycling facility in Middlesbrough.

As a Production Supervisor, you will set the standard for your shift and peers.
You must also have some engineering know-how as you will also be responsible for utilising your team to keep the production line running.

A safety focus is essential and you must have a history of being involved with continuous improvement work within a production / engineering environment.
As a shift supervisor, you will be responsible for a safe and positive workplace culture and efficient management and control of all material and processes.

As a shift supervisor flexibility will be key to this role in order to support the business needs.
Shifts will change as the business picks up pace.

his is a leadership role and you will be expected to drive your team whilst maintaining morale, as well as being integral in helping the business make the right decisions in these early stages.

Primary responsibilities of the role:
Undertake all tasks in accordance with company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and Business Management System
Responsible for managing a culture of good housekeeping on-site and ensuring the staff adhere to this.
Act on and report all defects/hazards immediately.
Be flexible in hours / shift work as you may be asked and expected to work other days/hours/ shift pattern dependent on the needs of the business.
To attend and contribute to any training deemed necessary for the role.
To act as an ambassador on behalf of the Company, ensuring that both fellow employees & clients are treated courteously & respectfully & that their requirements are complied with where safe to do so.
To carry out investigation/disciplinary hearings relevant to disciplinary authority level.
Ensure the health and safety of yourself, other employees and any visitors to the site.
To deputise in the absence of the Production/Maintenance manager
To take a proactive lead in on-site health and safety
To pro-actively drive on-site improvements
To assist in collating information to allow the business to continually evolve.
Carry out predetermined checks and audits to ensure compliance/safety.
Completion of time management data
To ensure no vehicles are overloaded and ensure safe manoeuvring onto or around site.
Adhere to instruction given regarding operations.
To complete any site record / compliance sheets
To carry out the duties of the post in a manor such as to safeguard and enhance the profile of the company.
Perform any duties associated with the day to day running of the plant as requested by the Site Manager.
Direct traffic coming onto the site to the correct areas.
Ensure that no product is released from site unless the appropriate documentation is available.
Ensure that the acceptance of product into storage is controlled.
Work as part of a team
Checking of incoming raw material to ensure compliance with purchasing contract specification.
Assists in the development of risk assessments as required.
To always wear appropriate PPE and ensure workforce also adhere to site PPE rules.

Competencies and qualifications required:
A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
Excellent supervisory skills with a proven track record
Flexible and adaptable approach to day to day tasks with the ability to multi-task under pressure
Solid understanding of a production facility
Good understanding of engineering principles and the principles of Total Productive Maintenance.
Strong communication skills
Problem solving and organisational skills.
Ability to work autonomously and make decisions under Company guidelines.
Highly organised
Recognised H&S, Fire Warden, First Aid certificates are desirable.
