Facilities Technician

Full Time

Our client, based in Newton Aycliffe, a cutting-edge manufacturer of a range of highly technical products are looking to appoint a Facilities Technician to join the team to support the maintenance team and ensure that the company property is maintained.

Job Purpose

A skilled tradesman with a technical background with the capabilities to support the maintenance team. To participate in effective and safe stores management system to cover company assets. To coordinate and carry out compliance inspections as directed by the EHS manager to ensure inspections and checks are completed and actions completed.  Work alongside the maintenance team ensuring that the team always have resources available to maximise production equipment efficiency and minimise downtime.

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage an effective stores system for equipment spares, carry out monthly audits and ensure critical spares are stocked
  • Receive, store, issue and record the traceability of production machine spares, fluids, equipment, tools, PPE, and consumables
  • Handle and store all materials and equipment in compliance with the requirements set out in datasheets, specifications or dictated by H&S legislation
  • Carry out the emergency lights management including tests, recording and remedial work.
  • Ensure firefighting equipment is in date and serviceable
  • Assist with the company preventative maintenance systems records and record data as required (training will be provided)
  • Maintain the company liquid gas tanks are per manufacturer’s instructions
  • Ensure that the site facilities are in good working order – to include hands on repairs and coordination of external contractors
  • Assist with liaising with Vendors as and when require, booking in and inductions
  • Ensure all health and safety policies are adhered to
  • Coordinate the company waste chemical storage to ensure they are disposed through the correct waste system

Candidate Requirements (Essential):

  • Level 3 NVQ in Warehousing and storage
  • Minimum two years’ experience within an engineering/manufacturing background.
  • Minimum two years’ facilities or maintenance experience and a good understanding of facilities compliance
  • Experience and knowledge in understand the pares and storage needs of the maintenance department, introducing effective management of the spares and consumables on site.
  • Minimum two years’ experience with maintaining plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Proactive, able to work alone and prioritise
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with people across all levels.
  • Knowledge of COSHH datasheet and hazardous materials handling
  • Skilled at a wide range of repairs, typically around factories. To include trade skills, repair work, maintenance, work (exterior and interior)
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • The ability to achieve targets and personal objectives
  • Good interpersonal skills and work well in a team
  • Committed and dedicated to assigned activities from line manager

Candidate Requirements (Desirable)

  • IEE 18th Edition certificate / PAT Testing qualification / Forklift driving licence
  • Level 3 NVQ Multi skilled engineering (electrical/mechanical)
  • Experience of running a factory technical store, controlling critical spares
  • Worked on a site carrying out facilities tasks to ensure legislation compliance is achieved
  • Held previous roles as a fire safety officer/Marshall with a good understanding of fire diaries
  • Participant in waste stream coordination in conjunction with EHS functions (fluids, chemicals, and scrap materials
